An idyllic ride up the mountain and stunning views over the famous mountains of Switzerland are awaiting you, if you decide to go to Schynige Platte.
How to get there
- By train: from Berne to Wilderswil (via Interlaken Ost) in 1 hour.
- By car: from Berne to Wilderswil in 45min.
Take the Schynige Platte railway from Wilderswil train station up to the top (runs from May to October. Check the website for details)
Either go on the “Panorama” hike (1h 15min) where you get the best view over Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, some of the most famous mountains of Switzerland (next to the Matterhorn) or if you are ambitious choose the 6-hour long “First” hike. Since our dog accompanied us and there is no lake or other water sources anywhere near, we chose to go on the “Panorama” hike. The path is made well enough that you don’t necessarily need hiking boots, sneakers will do too. However, hiking the trail in summer you should bring a hat and a large water bottle.
Additionally to the stunning view, you’ll also find around 600 plant species. Thus, leaving the trail is not advices, as we want to keep the pretty wild flowers alive, won’t we?
Only the way up with the railway already is worth considering to go on one of the two hikes. So what are you waiting for?
